Nice and Smooth, DE shave 2

Well round two was today,

I must say, I love love love my DE razor.  It is like a slice of heaven for my face.  I will preface with this, I have shaved with a straight for a month now and am using those techniques with the DE.  So beginners beware, you might not have such a great success right of the bat as I, im just that good.  Not really, I have a lot of blood loss over the past month to prove how bad I actually am.

So as for the shave, the ritual preshave continues.  I must say it is nice not having to strop when I dont need to.  Just jump in the shower and then dry of my glistening fazeek, minus my face, and start the lathering process.  I think I forgot to mention along with my new DE I got a brush.  It is a Royal Shave brand brush, not all that expensive but I think it is a great brush.  I didnt fall in love with it right away.  It is softer than my last one, its like being used to a nice firm hand shake and then you run into that one guy that has a dead fish for a hand.

So I had to adjust my face to a lighter feel and a longer haired brush.  I must say it is nicer now that I know how to use the limper brush.  It doesn’t irritate my face as much and produces a lot of lather once it gets going.  Just takes some revving up to get the brush to operate properly.  Boy this story is going down hill fast.  Ok I will shift gears and get on to the shaving part.

I did nick myself a couple of times tonight, but it was my own fault.  I was trying to get my chin real good and dug in on one spot.  Nothing bad, nothing a styptic pencil can’t handle.  I just love the way it glides around my face.  It doesn’t even feel like shaving.  It just feels like it’s removing the soap and that’s it.  But the evidence is there when I run my hand on my face, pretty much bbs.  I also tried ATG in a couple of spots, it went ok, got nice and close.  I did some stretching and that helped out as well.  No pressure needed with this razor either, just let its weight do the work.  It defiantly does some good work.

If you are looking to shave with better results than your cruddy cartridge type razor, but have been scared off by my stories with the straight, get a DE.  You will not regret it.  It is the best thing I have bought for myself in a long time.  I might even get ladybug to try it on her legs, oh ya, it’s that good.

Till next time, cant wait for my next DE shave.

Little Bug Shave Kit

Well little bug had his birthday and I had a very fitting gift for him,

I found this shave kit at Target that came with a razor, brush, mirror, comb and fake shave cream.  He loves it and started off the bat with making shure his forehead was properly shaved.  He proceeded with the top of his head as well, we all know how those darn whiskers need to be taken care of up there.

Then moving on he proceeded to make sure mommies beard was properly taken care off along with her nose.  My goodness he is a shaving fiend now.  Eventually we got back to himself and shaving his cheek.  He will have lots to learn about pressure on the face, he is going to have razor burn at a young age.  We havent let him have any shave cream yet as we think that is best reserved for bath time.  Dont want to imagine what damage could ensue he we just let him loose with the can.

So it was a hit, and daddy is a little more proud.  Here is a pic of the kit.

The Shaver

Starting over again, DE shave 1

Well here I am all over again with a different razor this time,

If you havent read any of my other post, this has up till now been for the most part a straight razor shaving sight.  I decided it was time to diversify and move into the twenty-first century.  So I called in a little back up, sharper than a whip and comes in a nice small package.  I had my first adventure with my new Edwin Jagger DE razor.

I must say it was nice having to strop, worry about dulling the blade, or even just trying to get a good hold on the straight with the non dominate hand.  I just got my face wet, lathered up and started to shave.  It was weird at first because I didnt think it was actually doing any thing.  Once I got around my chin where the whiskers are thicker I could hear the blade cutting down the forest.  So I do think it will come fast learning wise.  Didnt do much to try to get a good shave, but in the one pass I did it was awesome.  Lifted my spirits in a dark time for straight shaving for me.  I have been down in the dumps because I havent improved much with my straits.

For now the DE will act as a primary backup, I know oxymoron.  I will be my daily shaver when I dont have time to do a straight shave.  Plus it will back up what I miss with a straight.  It was much enjoyable today shaving with the DE, it is just like the first time shaving with my straight, just cant explain it.  Like a shaving euphoria, or maybe a shaving utopia.  It just felt good.  No burn, no fuss, no muss.  How ever that phrase goes.

So if you are looking for a change is shaving pace, defiantly go with a DE if you aren’t wanting a straight.  They both have their place in the old shaving den.  Gives me more flexibility when it comes to how I want to start my day.  I think me and my DE will have a long and happy life together, snuggled safe and sound in the box with my straits.

Till next time, cant wait to DE shave again.

Hurry up and shave, Shave 19

Well against my better judgement I rushed a shave today,

I learned my lesson of not shaving first thing in the morning when on the road.  We were stuck in Georgia due to it snowing like crazy back home.  We didnt know if or when we would come home today, then came the call to haul butt.  So we went post-haste back to the hotel to make way and get out of dodge.  This would not be a problem if I had taken proper means of organization and prep.  But alas, I had to again learn the hard way.

So I rushed into my room, clothes flying everywhere, hot water running and lather going every which way.  surprisingly it wasnt to harmful to my face, only got one good nick, no other bleeding.  I shocked myself, but the shave was all but shocking.  I still looked like I had a stubble, but not a beard. Didnt even have time for after shave, off to get home.

If you are wondering why I must shave is because I am in the military and have to shave when in uniform.  So there ya go.  Short and sweet, nothing great, but nothing bad either.  They guys were waiting for me, of course because a straight is slower to shave with than others.  But in the rush I forgot my wedding ring, the hotel was kind enough to send it to me at my expense of course, via fedex.  Better than answering to an angry ladybug.

Well till next time, cant wait till the next shave.

A Christmas shave, Shave 18

Well I hope you enjoyed my attempt at poetry,

As for shaving for Christmas, it was probably better than my attempt at long-lasting literature.  Wasnt planning on shaving, but duty calls and I had to go off to work.  So after all the festivities of the morning I went off for a shave.  As you all might remember I was chucking out the shick razor.  So it was all or nothing this morning, so I had thought any way.

Ok, to the shave.  It was just one of those days where not much was going to go my way when it came to taking off the whiskers.  I wasnt relaxed, I still felt like I needed a shower after just stepping out of one, the stropping was less than to be desired, and the lather was everywhere.  So I still pressed on and tried to make the most out of what was shaping up to be a bad shaving day.  Now if I didnt have to go into work, I probably would have just stopped there.  I dont think straight shaving should be rushed or pushed.  Luckly I had time, so it was just a push.

I got the lather on my face, didnt feel too bad.  I have been trying to dampen the brush every so often to see if I can get the right mix between too sloppy wet and supper dry lather.  It wasnt that bad, still dried out quick, but I just kept reapplying and it was ok.  As for the actual shaving, well not so great on my part.  I just wasnt in to it, and thus a cruddy shave was the result.  I think I could use my face for 80 grit sand paper the shave was so dingy.  It was so unappealing that I decided to restrop and redo the shave.  Heck even after that I still had a bunch of tree trunks lying around on my face.

So I just kept at it, did a little of this, a little of that.  eventually I got a shave good enough for work, especially a day where I wasnt planning on coming in.  I try to look my best, but I also didnt need world war three breaking out all over my face.  I surprisingly didnt burn my face, just didnt get a close shave either.  I think I needed to strop longer and better, the Micarta just wasnt cutting this morning.  Hopefully she aint dulled out, good thing for lifelong honing.

The shave was so bad that I went diving in the trash can after my old shick, I had one last cartridge I could use, but just needed the handle to put it on.  I couldnt find it so I put all the trash back in, tried to gather my pride after just rummaging thru the garbage like a bum, I shure looked like one.  At any rate, I gave it one last pass and that cleaned it up just enough.  So I started to clean up everything and get off to work.  As I reached up to get a tissue to dry off the blade my eye caught something on the self, what do ya know, my old schick.  To little to late, oh well the damage was done.

So I think next shave around I will do some light meditation to recenter my shaving chee, put on some soft jazz, light some candles…….um maybe not.  I think I will just man up next time and focus on what matters, the task at hand.  I think that was the biggest thing, I was very distracted this time around.  So when shaving, make sure you have time and a place where you can concentrate on just that, shaving.  Makes for a much better shave.

Well till next time, cant wait till the next shave.

Christmas Shaving Poem

All thru the house, nothing was stirring, well possibly a mouse.

All of us were snuggled up in our beds, for our heaters were on low thanks to one little bugs fun.

Our tree was treeing, our presents were all wrapped, even the dogs were content to take a nights nap.

For all of a sudden what do I hear, a stirring and calling, from a razor thats longing.

It has been only a few hours, but soon I will shower.

For my face is growing, and it is time for a mowing.

I come with a prepped face, ready to lather,

I pick up the brush and whip up the Williams wool fat, just be glad we dont have a cat.

As the razor is stropped, I cant help think how I’m so pumped,

So I start in on shaving, hopefully I come out with nothing missing.

The Prima is gliding, oh my feelings im not hiding.

For today I must shave for work, oh how I feel sort of tart.

Now I bid thee adieu, for my words are not few,

But I leave you with this,

Do your self a favor, and shave with a straight razor.
